An Alternative History and Future of Ecological Modelling Infrastructure by Nolan Dennis
This video animation presents ongoing research into ecological modeling sites and decolonial modeling practices. This project traces a history from colonial world-making infrastructures like the botanical garden, the greenhouse and the laboratory through systems modeling infrastructure like the phytotron, the ecotron and other closed environment facilities. Through a deep dive into these technical systems, the project looks at what other stories these infrastructures might harbor, what other futures are anticipated by these models when they are viewed from the perspective of the global south. How can ecological modeling tools help us move from a colonial world to a decolonial planet?
